Sandmark Design was founded by me Art Jones in 1973 when I designed and built my own home in Randolph, Massachusetts. I currently work out of my home office on Cape Cod and am a Professional member of the American Institute of Building Designers.

I graduated from Wentworth Institute in 1962 with a certificate in Mechanical Drafting and Design. I have spent all of my life in engineering as a Civil/Structural and Mechanical designer but my love has always been Architecture and the designing of homes. Although I have extensive experience in residential drafting and design, I am not a licensed architect. But, by current building code I am allowed to design and draw on behalf of my clients for most residential building projects. If the project does require a professional engineer's stamp. I am able to use one of my many contacts to get that done.

Our Business

Sandmark Design has completed many projects over the last 35 years from a simple two car garage to a 4,000 sq ft waterfront home.  The main goal of Sandmark Design is to provide the highest quality construction documents at an affordable cost and to obtain a building permit for construction. There are a few steps to get to that end as outlined below.

Pre-Design Phase

During this phase I will review owner supplied documents, walk the site, verify the existing conditions, photograph and draw up existing structures as necessary.

Design Phase

This phase I will prepare preliminary drawings for the clients review. Once their review is done the client will then notify the designer as to the revisions requested.

Construction drawings

Once the construction drawings are completed and the clients have reviewed the drawings with the contractor then a Professional Engineer may review and stamp off if necessary. The drawings can then be submitted to the Building Inspector for approval.

This home was designed completly over the phone and by email with its owner in New York. The existing house had been in the family for years but was to small to accomodate a growing family.
